Helping your child to write;

Create a scrapbook of pictures and photos for them to write about, encourage them to use high frequency words off their word rings BUT most importantly assist them to sound out a word and write the sounds down they hear in unknown words.

Once children know their letters and sounds they can make spelling approximations or 'tryspells' which are MORE valuable to learning to write that just telling them how it is spelt.  Once they are writing one sentence on their own, get them to reread to check it makes sense and then write two, then three sentences with more information...

Most children are writing simple sentences in our class, they will be learning to write compound or complex ones by using the joining words 'and', 'but', 'so' and 'because' with me and master tryspelling any unknown word.

PE: Small ball skills

We have been heading out in the afternoons to get fit and improve our skills at throwing and catching small balls.  We begin with stretches and then sprints and then split into teams to play 'scatterball'.

I have taught the children the correct overarm throw technique used in sports such as Softball and Shotput, I am super impressed with how much effort they are putting into our PE sessions in the heat of this long summer!
