Whaakarongo Mai Te Whanau ki a pakiwaitara...listen to our stories!
To help your child's skills as an author have them say the sound a letter makes with you, this is key to being able to write words they don't know. Every night practice their high frequency words on their word ring with them till they recognise them all :) they will also use these in sentences for writing.
